note : Arnoux conquista la pole con un tempone ma in gara é fermato dal deterioramento delle gomme, vince il suo secondo ed ultimo GP Jabouille, che nel 1979 e nel 1980 ha conquistato solo i punti delle due vittorie, un fatto abbastanza anomalo. Con la terza Lotus debutta Nigel Mansell. In gara ci sono tre Lotus e tre Williams (una privata) anche questo é ormai abbastanza anacronistico.
