Jochen Rindt é l’unico pilota ad aver vinto il titolo postumo, almomento della sua mortem durante le prove del GP d’Italia 1970 era in testa alla classifica con 45 punti ma mancavano ben quattro gare, compresa quella di Monza, erano in palio ancora ben 36 punti e molti piloti avrebbero potuto superarlo in classifica, in particolare i ferraristi Ickx (19 punti) e Regazzoni (21) ma anche Hulme (20), Stewart (19) e sopratutto Brabham (25) che invece non farà nemmeno un punto nelle ultime 4, ci arriva vicino Ickx che chiuderà a 40.
